About Vonetta Young
Vonetta is an essayist, memoirist, and short storyist. Her work generally explores complex family dynamics, including fatherlessness and half-sibling relationships; the messy intersection of race and class in upwardly mobile Black families; Millennial perspectives on Christianity; and identity and belonging.
She is an alumna of writing workshops at VONA/Voices, VQR, Yale, Squaw Valley, Bread Loaf, and Tin House. Her writing has also been supported by Banff Centre for Arts & Creativity. She received a BA in English and an MBA in finance from Georgetown University.
She is originally from New Jersey, grew up in North Carolina, and lives in Washington, DC.
